Merge release/1.0 (e3e4ba6) into opt15-price-run-fixes
Conflicts (5 files, 9 hunks) resolved keeping both sides:
- p1.py: held_t (OPT-15) beside held_since (SAFETY-90).
- modetrade.py: chargers() takes targets (P4) and probe (OPT-15); decide()
clears the chargers, a probing refuser included, while a battery drains
(SAFETY-78); the docstring lists both rules.
- main.py: the roll goes into the SAFETY-90/91 projection chain
(`_peak_proj`); the SAFETY-95 drain-tail grid_w keeps the run-edge hold on
its other branch; the P4 forecast state and the hold state both stay.
- DOCS.md, DECISIONS: both lines kept, OPT-15 item refreshed.
Adaptations the merge needs:
- SAFETY-81 x F1: a rolled projection is not graded by the saturation alarm
until the quarter's first sample, as the old edge tick was not, so a
standing overload is still notified once per quarter.
- test_safety81, test_modes_p4: modes-on pins re-pinned (with a note), modes
off pinned to e3e4ba6; test_price_run_fixes: identity pins on

SAFETY-91: a held battery is drawn only after the others are full
At N>=2 a battery at or under its own peak reserve now weighs 0 whenever the site gives (not only for the peak), a draining battery's pin becomes a floor at its drain rate so it rises before the held one gives, and a quarter's edge is graded on the next quarter when its first telegram is late. SAFETY-25 option A stays: the held battery is still drawn once the others are full. N=1 unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

OPT-15: price-run fixes (quarter edge, charge-end overshoot, refusal probe)
F1: with battery modes on, the peak guard projects the quarter `now` is in
even before its first P1 sample (PeakTracker.project(roll=True)), and only
a measured stop latches the period. The edge tick no longer reads "no
seconds left", so a charge is not stopped and latched at a quarter edge.
F2: after a run edge the loop is held at E until the meter shows the step
(EDGE_HOLD_S, longer while the battery still moves). The replay gained a
lag model (dead time, reading age, P1 debounce, 1 s cycles) that shows
TEST-23's overshoot without the hold.
F3: a charge refuser's SAFETY-73 probe inside a cheap run is a charger
pinned at PROBE_W, the others rest, so the probe actually runs.
Modes off stays byte-identical to

UX-10: the last plain-language leftovers: log lines, two table rows, 'Why: Other', red at 0 s
- test_messages.py part 6: every dynamic part of a WARNING+ line is classified as data or as a built text, and every built text is produced by the real code and checked. This is the gap the 2d scan had: it counted `%s` as one word, so reasons built by loop_clamp_note() and friends were never seen. - Quoted reasons rewritten to STYLE.md (red-alarm shape, codes kept): OUTPUT_CLAMP, METER_FROZEN, CIRCULATING_POWER, STALE_READING, the peak guard (codes now PEAK_GUARD*), the migration report, price feed, price history and gate reasons. Plurals via messages.times()/count(). - Top table: Price history "96 prices over 24 hours for 26 Sep", Tariff "one every 15 minutes or every hour", "not final yet" dropped. - Levels and noise: per-cycle shadow line DEBUG, shadow on/off INFO, aiohttp access log only at log level debug, settings warnings once per start, one plain line per Home Assistant outage (hass.Outage). - INFO jargon and error texts: no "§8.3", ISO times, "banked", "keys ARE", "NOT_OBSERVED", "did NOT land", "AND". - Display bugs: WHY_WINNER covers every winner and safety reason (main.why_key(), part 7 finds them in the code); the meter row is amber "waiting for the first reading" inside its limit after a start; the missing-reading age is counted when the page asks. - STYLE.md and DECISIONS/UX-08-short-notifications.md (UX-10 section). No change to safety behaviour, alarm levels, notification ids, triggers, cadence or the banner cascade. One row colour changes (meter at start), justified in DECISIONS. TARIFF-13: the coverage figure beside the peak stops resetting at a restart
checks / unit (pull_request) Successful in 7m27s
The capacity-tariff status row printed a peak read from SQLite next to a count
of banked quarters read from PROCESS MEMORY - `PeakTracker.recorded`, an `int`
set to 0 in `__init__` and counted up inside `sync()`. A 40-hour soak caught
what that means at a driven restart, on both instances independently:
before: 2026-09: peak 365 W, set by the quarter at 2026-09-11T18:45:00+00:00
- 10 % of the 3500 W soft limit; 120 quarter(s) banked
after : 2026-09: peak 365 W, set by the quarter at 2026-09-11T18:45:00+00:00
- 10 % of the 3500 W soft limit; 0 quarter(s) banked
Reproduced here before anything changed, through the real Controller and a real
restart - a second Controller object against the same file on disk - at 12 -> 0
with 12 rows standing in `quarter_blocks`.
The peak is durable and was never wrong. The COUNT is what says how much of the
billing month that peak covers, and 365 W over 120 quarters and 365 W over 0
quarters are different claims about the same number. Mid-month, after every
restart, the page made the weaker claim while displaying the stronger one's
value. That is TARIFF-01's own argument - an unreadable store must not read as a
zero peak, because a zero peak is disarming - one column over.
`PeakStore.banked_count(month)` asks the database, and `recorded` is a property
over it. Two more defects in the same variable fell out once it was driven, and
neither was in the ticket: it was never scoped to a MONTH (on 1 October the row
still showed September's tally beside October's empty month - measured), and it
missed the block `restore()` banks from the checkpoint, which never passes
through `sync()`.
⚠️ NOT 0, AND NOT None, WHEN THE STORE WILL NOT ANSWER. `banked_count()` returns
None and the row renders `an unreadable number of quarter(s) banked`.
`f"{None} quarter(s) banked"` was rejected because it reads as the same zero.
`0 quarter(s) banked` stays true and reachable - it is what a month nothing has
been written to says, and the two are asserted to be different text.
⚠️ THE DEDUPE IS NOT REMOVED WITH THE COUNTER. `_seen` still stops `cycle()`'s
once-a-second `sync()` re-banking a block `P1Ingest.blocks` keeps for a day. The
check that graded it asserted `recorded == 1` - the dedupe and the figure
reporting it were the same variable - and now grades `sync()`'s RETURN, because
counting rows cannot see a re-bank at all (PRIMARY KEY no-op).
THE TIE RULE, DECIDED RATHER THAN EMERGENT: at equal wattage the EARLIEST
quarter keeps the attribution. No bill and no guard moves - `peak_w` is still
only ever raised, the `>` term is untouched, SAFETY-07 reads the same watts.
The two readers DID disagree: the upsert's strict `>` kept whichever tied block
was WRITTEN first while `recompute_month()` has always kept the earliest, the
same only while blocks arrive in time order, and measured to diverge (09:45
against 09:00) fed newest-first.
⚠️ AND THE SOAK'S DRIFTING QUARTER WAS NOT A TIE. Six exactly equal 365.0 W
quarters re-attributed zero times on the shipped tree - `>` is strict. What
moved it was a real new maximum BELOW THE ROW'S OWN RESOLUTION: the row renders
whole watts, so 365.0000001 W is a new peak to the database and the same 365 W
to the reader. Left alone deliberately, and pinned so it is not re-diagnosed.
test_tariff.py parts 11 and 12. 12 mutations, all red, listed on the PR; M2 -
`banked_count()`'s sqlite3.Error arm returning 0 - was a SURVIVOR at -3 B on the
first battery, because a handle that never opened short-circuits before any SQL
runs and nothing reached the except arm. Closed with an open store whose table
is dropped under it, with a precondition that the same call answered 4 first.
main.py is NOT touched - TARIFF-11 holds its status rows. The row picks this up
without editing because `recorded` is an attribute access and is now a property.
The residual is stated in DECISIONS §3: `recorded` answers for now() while the
peak follows `checks(when=...)`, and the shipped install has exactly one call
site - `self.checks()` with no argument, main.py:4359 - where they are the same
month, so the live page is correct and durable. `recorded_in(when)` is shipped
and the row's move onto it is one token, for whoever holds main.py next; part 10
pins the present behaviour against a row count taken from `quarter_blocks` so
the gap cannot be quietly forgotten.

SAFETY-07: cap the loop before it sets the month's billed capacity peak
checks / unit (pull_request) Successful in 3m7s
TARIFF-01 measured the quarter and said the consumer would be this card. It is
one new module, app/peakguard.py, and one new claim.
THE MECHANISM. Every cycle the guard projects the open 900 s block to its
end-of-interval average - from P1 telegrams only, never from the command - and
compares it to a ceiling. Over the ceiling it files ONE arbiter claim: a lower
bound on the setpoint at P_PEAK. That single shape is both behaviours 10.1 asks
for, a hard clamp on charging and pre-emptive discharge, and it cannot cap
discharge or export, because a floor cannot. 9.1's asymmetry becomes a property
of the object instead of a rule to remember.
excess = 900 x (projected - ceiling) / seconds remaining
floor = MEASURED battery power + excess
The 900/remaining gain is 1.0 at the top of the quarter and grows, so the guard
is gentlest where its projection rests on the least evidence. The floor is sized
from delivered battery power, not the standing command: a floor built on intent
re-adds its own unmet ask every cycle and winds to the rail whenever the inverter
fails to follow, and test_peakguard.py part 1 shows the two diverging.
IT TRIPS, AND THE CAPTURES DECIDED THAT. On the healthy reference day it engages
on zero of 95 quarters. The action is level-triggered, unlatched and re-derived
every cycle, so a false engagement costs one cycle of discharge rather than a
parked battery - the cost SAFETY-18 could not bound and this one can. Replayed on
2026-08-20 the billed quarter goes from 5029.8 W, above the inverter's own 5000 W
rating, to 3485 W, under the soft limit and without saturating. Quarters under
the limit across both committed days: 189/190 -> 190/190. Two days is not thirty
and AC 3 remains TARIFF-01's open item.
BLINDNESS IS CHECKED BEFORE THE PROJECTION IS GRADED, and it is a different
action. A fresh averager projects a confident 0 W, which is under every ceiling
there is; a meter gap longer than meter_max_age_s makes the projection read LOW;
a frozen meter reading export projects 0 W at full coverage. All three become a
floor of 0 W - no importing while the billed quantity is unobservable - which is
one-directional and cannot cost pack energy. That is the backstop SAFETY-18 could
not be: its alarm arrives at 300 s of a 900 s quarter and commands nothing. The
frozen term is freeze.looks_frozen() itself, on this cycle's standing command.
THE CEILING IS peak_cap_w, RAISED ONLY BY AN OBSERVED READING. NO_RECORD and
NOT_OBSERVED both leave it at the cap, so an unreadable peak store makes the
guard stricter and never looser. The gate is the reading's STATE, not whether a
number happens to be attached: today a `peak_w is not None` test behaves
identically, and depending on that coincidence is how a future last-known-peak
field would raise the ceiling off a read that failed. headroom_w() is
deliberately not consumed - cap minus peak turns a zero peak into FULL freedom.
TWO DEFECTS FOUND BUILDING IT, both in the interaction rather than the
arithmetic, and both caught by running the thing rather than by reading it:
* A LIMIT does not out-vote another LIMIT. arbiter.resolve() applies every
limit at or above the winner's priority and takes the most restrictive, so
the peak floor (lo >= 0) and the maintenance charge-only shaping (hi <= 0)
resolved to a CONTRADICTION and 0 W - the battery parked in the exact quarter
it should shave. Fixed by suppression, not priority: main.py drops the
maintenance shaping while the guard is engaged, which is what that branch
already did for the optional peak_forecast_entity - a key empty on a default
install, so until now the suspension could not fire on the site that needed
it.
* Thresholding `excess > 0` released the claim the instant it began working,
producing seventeen engage/release cycles in one 900 s quarter and leaving
that quarter 49 W over the limit it had spent fifteen minutes holding. That
is 10.2's oscillation. The threshold is now the floor itself, which is the
same arithmetic read as a level rather than as a switch.
PeakTracker.project() no longer reads a private name with a default.
getattr(averager, "_last_net", 0.0) failed quiet AND disarming - a rename credits
0 W held, the projection reads low, the money guard does not engage.
QuarterAverager.held_net_w is a documented public property now, read without a
default, and Projection carries it. TEST-13 item 4.
NO NEW OPTION AND NO FOURTH DEFAULTS SITE. The ceiling is peak_cap_w, the
coverage threshold is meter_max_age_s, the freeze predicate is meter_freeze_s,
and the achievable discharge comes from max_w and the device rating. config.yaml
and validate.py are untouched; 14's capacity_peak_limit_kw stays declined. On
meter_source: off there are no telegrams, so the guard does not run at all and
the status page says NOT COVERED - running it there blinded it permanently and
stopped every legacy install from charging, which is what the first cut did until
test_clamp.py's export case caught it.
test_peakguard.py: eight parts, all figures derived from the shipped config.yaml
and the committed captures. Part 8 runs seven one-line defeats of the guard and
reports which check bites; six do, and the seventh is reported as NOT caught,
because max(cap, peak) makes a zero peak the strictest ceiling there is and there
is nothing left to catch.

TARIFF-01: measure the month's billed peak, and make it survive a restart
checks / unit (pull_request) Successful in 2m38s
The 15-minute block average was already built and unwired. p1.QuarterAverager computes clock-aligned 900 s blocks, time-weighted over irregular telegram spacing, offtake-only and per-phase; P1Ingest.blocks was a 96-entry list in memory that a restart erased. So this is the persistence and the monthly reduction, not a second accumulator - a second one would be a second source of truth for the exact quantity the money depends on. BLOCKS, NOT A SLIDING WINDOW. The card says "rolling"; 9.1 bills "the highest 15-minute average offtake" and states its own worked case per QUARTER - one 4998 W quarter moving a monthly peak from 4832 to 5013 W. A trailing window reports a peak the meter never bills, and reports it HIGH: a burst straddling :15 fills the window completely while contributing to two block averages at partial weight. DELIVERED, NOT INTENDED. tariff.py only ever sees P1Sample - the meter's own reading - and never a setpoint. SAFETY-20's open question does not arise for a capacity tariff: the utility integrates the current that flowed. AN UNREADABLE STORE IS NOT A ZERO PEAK. peak() answers OBSERVED / NO_RECORD / NOT_OBSERVED with peak_w None unless observed, which is riglock.holder()'s fix applied to something that spends money. A peak read as 0 W hands SAFETY-07 maximum headroom and disarms the guard at the moment its own storage breaks. Restart mid-block resumes the accumulator through a new snapshot()/restore() pair, checkpointed every 15 s and cleared in the same breath as a block close. The held sample keeps its ORIGINAL timestamp, so an outage is integrated under the same max_hold_s rule a running process would apply. quarter_start is the primary key and a re-bank may only ever RAISE a figure. Calendar months are LOCAL: a quarter starting 22:15 UTC on 31 August bills in September. No new option (the limit is the existing peak_cap_w), so config.yaml and validate.py are untouched and CFG-03 is not widened. No second peak entity: peak_forecast_entity stays the input to maintenance_charge_floor(), because repointing that consumer changes what moves energy and belongs to SAFETY-07. AC 3 is NOT met. It asks for 30 days of replay; two days of this house's real meter exist and are committed here. test_tariff.py part 9 replays them, reports the percentage next to the sample size in days, and asserts nothing about 95 %.
